THE FOG – The Gospel of Gnosis – Chapters Seven and Eight

The Gospel of Gnosis  –  According to Philip

Chapter Seven

THE RESSURECTION OF TRUTH

Some people want to become learned. That is their purpose when they begin to solve unsolved problems. If they succeed, they are proud. But they have not stood in the word of truth. Rather, they seek their own rest, which we have received from our savior and our lord, the Christ. We receive rest when we came to know the truth and rested on it. (7.1) What therefore is the truth about the resurrection? For many do not believe in it, and few find it. So how does the One open the eyes of those who wish to come to know the resurrection.? (7.2)

THE VISION OF THE BLIND SERVANT

A man went before his master for stealing a loaf to feed his family. When asked by his master if he was guilty of stealing the loaf the man said no. When asked if he denied taking the loaf the man said he had taken the loaf. Since the man had no defense but his own he was asked to give good reason for his actions. The man stated his taking of the loaf was not a theft because he took it out of his need and not his want. He then accused his master of neglecting his workers while they themselves ate to excess. To this the master replied in judgement, as we are seen in this world, so do we cloth ourselves. He then passed judgment and sentenced the man to death and his family to labour. (7.3)

THE SWALLOWING OF DEATH

When the man faced his executioner he was given a vision of how he had been seen in this world. He saw his flesh worn like an old garment that had become torn and worn out. For how we are seen in this world we wear like a garment. (7.4) Then the savior revealed to him the sunset of his life and held him in his arms as he was drawn into the One by beams of radiant light. Then as the executioners hand fell he was drawn to heaven like beams, by the sun, and nothing could hold him down. All that remained was the garment. This is the resurrection of the spirit, which swallows up the flesh. So as the world is clothed, so will it be judged. (7.5)

THE SUPERIOR WAY

In the beginning a course may be followed that espouses a slight deviation with every advancement that continuously provides greater room for error. Our concern is not to be sinless but to be one with God. (7.6) Thus the self-knower is a double person. (7.7) There is the part which understands by rules and standards within itself. However there is also the other whose understanding has become something new through and through. They have thrown themselves as one thing over to the superior. (7.8) The latter knows themselves as no longer man but one with the Divine Mind. This is the spirit in motion as it passes from one act to another. (7.9) The lesser must be working towards the increase of its being. Only thus can its being reproduce that of the higher. Something exists within which is higher than the self. (7.10) Eternity calls forth life to repose, complete and always endless. For within itself many things are engraved to be held by the eternal engraver. (7.11) There is no injustice in a man suffering for what belongs to the condition in which he is. Nor can we ask to be happy when our actions have not earned us happiness. The good are happy because they are good. For happiness is only found in living the virtuous life. When the seeker discovers virtues divine purpose they will be raised above the crowds. (7.12)

THE REAL AND VISABLE RESERRECTION OF LIFE

The visible parts of the body will not rise. Only the living parts which exist inside will rise. Therefore what is the resurrection? (7.12) It is the revelation of those who have risen. Do not suppose that the resurrection is an illusion. It is no illusion. It is the truth. It is more proper to say the world is an illusion, rather than the resurrection of the Christ. (7.13) Do not become lost in the words of false prophets or lose yourself in details in regard to the resurrection. Live according to the truth which does not obey the flesh for the sake of harmony. Flee from all deceitfulness which can be seen gathering like a coming storm. For truth cannot hide itself and will free your being from the bondage of false witnesses. (7.14) There are many ways for those who are still searching to find the truth that leads to eternal life through the One Christ. Do not roam aimlessly in error, all with the end of recovering what one was at the beginning. Be released from elements by these words which have been given to all by the generosity of the creator. (7.15)

Chapter Eight

PARABLE OF A SLAVE

Yeshua said, “All have the ability to awaken, yet do not know it. Many prefer to drift on a great sea chained to an oar and suffer a lifetime as a slave. You are ignorant of what you possess and are chained to the oar which has been set below”. (8.1)

THE TREE OF SEVEN LIMBS

Yeshua spoke, “Each season, a tree with seven large limbs grows. It becomes stronger and sends out new shoots. It is not something that happens once and is complete. It is growing all the time. So it must be with you.” (8.2)

The first limb offers repose from the heat of the day. If we sit long enough in its shade we will remember. When we begin to remember we will never forget our root and the relationship with what has been lost will continue as we rise to our feet and climb. (8.3)

The second limb will reveal the leaves which return to the earth and become part of our future. As the buds of the tree reveal themselves, minds are raised to the questions of life. (8.4)

The third limb produces the fruit of faith which encourages stamina and endurance to continue the ascent. (8.5)

The fourth limb produces the fruit of spiritual ease and restfulness which is awakened from the worries of the world. (8.6)

The fifth limb produces the fruit of ecstasy with a view of the beauty beyond the hills where joy and happiness await. (8.7)

The sixth limb finds stillness from the rustling of leaves where the voice of gnosis can be heard. (8.8)

The seventh limb produces the fruit of wisdom where one rests in the arms of true love. (8.9)
