THE FOG – The Gospel of Gnosis and the One Percent
In the Gospel of Gnosis we are told by Yeshua, “There is a divine light within a person of light and it shines on the whole world. You must seek the truth of heaven now and always. For the kingdom of heaven is within us always but those occupied by the world do not see it. This yields ignorance of the living One.”
In Buddhism one speaks of following the Dharma to become enlightened. In Christianity we can say we follow the Gnosis to become awakened. So those of us who say we are Gnostic are not saying we are not Christian. In fact what we are saying is we follow the way of Gnosis to awaken. And what are we awakening to? While the Buddhist may say they are becoming awakened through enlightenment to realize consciousness, we Christians can say we are becoming awakened through divine awareness to realize Christ Consciousness.
Therefore to say we are Gnostic does not mean we are a particular splinter sect in Christianity. To say we are Gnostic simply means we are searching for the Christ within ourselves and within the church. For instance, I am a priest in a Gnostic Church. This is my traditional home and the place where I choose to search for gnosis while still in the physical body. The physical body needs a home. But the spirit has a home within and beyond the physical body. So it only makes senses that we begin our human journey within a faith community which accepts the body of Christ. To others this may mean accepting the body of Buddha, or the body of Allah, Mani, Baha’u’llah or any other spiritual figure which can deliver us to the essential place we call home within and of the One.
We are a diverse people so we can conclude that our paths will be just as diverse. The thing we have to remember is they eventually all diverge in the center which is with the One. It is through the consciousness of enlightenment or enwakenment that we can all share in a collective consciousness. For instance when war breaks out there seems to be a collective consciousness which all people respond to so they can join their respective armed services to collectively kill their neighbor. Similarly our neighbor is collectively doing the same thing which justifies the collective consciousness of war. As a result people line up by the thousands to kill and be killed. Usually while someone who is not physically in the fight gets rich. What kind of insanity is this? Over the course of human history millions and millions of people have died for a country, a cause, or for many other constructs of the imagination. These collective acts of consciousness have proven to be unspeakably horrific. If there is a devil then these are the moments in history when proof may be found. These are the actions of a consciousness which is asleep and unenlightened. It is only by experiencing gnosis and the awakened spirit of enlightenment that humanities collective consciousness can make an unquestionable positive contribution to all life everywhere. So if we can bond together in the horrors of war lets us now learn to bond together in the glories and joys of peace.
Over the years many great people have echoed the words of Spinoza to no avail due to ignorance of the Holy Spirit of the One. Let us now remember the words of Spinoza:
“Peace is not just an absence of war, it is a virtue, a state of mind, a disposition for benevolence, confidence and justice”.
Let us all collectively have the courage to shake our minds from sleep.
Now this is where it gets interesting! The war I want to discuss next is the war going on right now within ourselves. This war is personal and exists at a collective unconscious level. But the more we look around and see the inequality in the world the more this war begins to seep into our consciousness. As it becomes part of our awareness we must be careful and pray for the spiritual maturity to respond with loving kindness. For as the 1% gets richer the 99 % is getting poorer. The middle class continues to shrink and as a result inequality will persist. If this inequality continues to persist at some point the masses will respond as in days of old with pitch forks and sickles. The 1 % will be forced to take refuge in their gated communities surrounded by motes. In fact we can already see this happening. So how should we the 99 % respond? We should respond with loving kindness now, before it is too late. For if we wait too long to respond history tells us that rational thought will be overpowered by the desperation of a violent group mentality. This means no one wins the day and what will follow is just a different oligarchical enterprise. Nothing will have changed except that another group will set themselves up as the divine rulers of society until the next collapse. We will have proven once again that history has taught us nothing.
However there is another way we the 99% can learn to relate to the 1%. For this we only have to turn to Matthew 18:12-14 where Jesus shares the parable of the lost sheep.
“If any man has a hundred sheep, and one of them has gone astray, does he not leave the ninety-nine on the mountains and go and search for the one that is straying? If it turns out that he finds it, truly I say to you, he rejoices over it more than over the ninety-nine which have not gone astray. So it is not the will of your Father who is in heaven that one of these little ones perish”.
Reading this parable it is pretty clear to see that the 1% needs to be turned from their greed and selfishness. The way that their hardened hearts can be changed is by heaping loving kindness on them. Now I am not saying we need to be naive suckers. This will only permit the 1% to continue on their merry way all the way to the bank. The loving kindness I am speaking of is more like a parent taking a child to the dentist who needs an examination. The child will resist however the parent acts firmly and compassionately as the child is shepherded to the Doctor’s office. This metaphor opens up many possibilities for intervention in the real world. For we all know that the shrinking of the middle class is the canary in the mine. When the middle class dies it will prosper no one. Especially the 1%. So we the people need to take action now. We need to offer the 1% a life perspective. If they grab it then we are all saved. This life perspective is gnosis. It is the opportunity to save the lost sheep through the enlightenment of Christ consciousness. This is the better way for all humanity. For once the 1% falsely believes it is safely behind their gated communities it will only be a matter of time before the siege begins and no matter how large the financial mote is, it will be crossed. Then we begin to devour ourselves and the cycle continues. So let us correctly interpret the parable of the lost sheep and break the 1% of their self-proclaimed cycle of hegemonically inspired colonialism. Let us all heed the call of the One Holy Spirit and expound the good news of the Gospel of Gnosis.
